Probiotic yogurt starter
This yogurt starter allows you to make homemade probiotic yogurt, it contains 2 additional probiotic strains; Lactobacillus casei and Bifidobacterium (“Bifidus”) longum. Do good to your health with 100 billion live and active bacteria per 100 g serving! Once made, homemade yogurt keeps for 2 to 3 weeks in the refrigerator.

Box needs to state specific Yogurt maker required
Instructions on your site state that a yogurt maker MUST be used fir this specific type due to the different types if cultures. It does NOT state this on the box. I will now have to make a return journey to the store and hope that they will refund me or allow me to exchange for another starter.
Have used for years, now use the probiotic version

I bought this at my local health food store and it was very easy to make. I was getting tired of paying for those little cups of yogurt at the grocery store and thought I'd give it a try. I made it without a yogurt maker ( I used my crockpot) and it turns out great every time. It's a little tangy but if you like a sweet fruit bottom yogurt a little jam does the trick. I've cut the cost by half by making my own and I know exactly what's in it! Thanks for such a good product!
I have been using your yogurt starter for many years and find it to be an excellent product. Recently my naturopath recommended that I use bifidus strain yogurt do to a digestive issue I have called sibo and I have begun using this probiotic version because it contains that strain and find it to be excellent.

How can I make more yogurt with remaining yogurt (made from probiotic yogurt starter)?
Hi Anny, you may start a new batch of yogurt from a part of a previous one made with the Yogourmet original yogurt starter only. This practice does not apply to the Yogourmet yogurt starter with probiotics. The way the probiotics grow in the initial batch does not allow them to be used as a starter since they would not grow properly in the next batches.
Hi, I bought this yogurt starter in Singapore and i brought it to my hometown in Indonesia. Is that fine during shipping without refrigerated?
Hi Ansell, for a short period of time there is no problem. We highly recommend to keep the different Yogourmet starters refrigerated or frozen in order to maintain a high bacterial concentration. When kept refrigerated, the different Yogourmet starters keep their freshness an additional year, passed the expiry date, and more when kept frozen. When kept at a temperature of 25Â°C/77Â°F beyond few weeks, the different Yogourmet starters could lose some of their bacterial concentration and then require a longer incubation period.

I have the Yogurt starter with probiotics and love the results with my yogurt maker using milk. I now want to make yogurt with coconut milk. Do I proceed the same way as with milk, i.e. heat "milk", cool, add culture and incubate? Thank you/Merci

What temperature do I cool the milk to before adding the culture?
Hi Darlene, with this starter you need to cool the milk to 23-25Â°C before adding the starter culture.
I have just started to use this starter and find it quite tart. The time suggested is between 9 a 15 hours. Would this cause it to be more tart than your original starter?
Hi again Darlene, in fact, the more longer is the incubation period the more acidulated/tart the yogurt will be. That's why the yogurt you make with our probiotic yogurt starter taste different from our original yogurt starter. If you like it less tart you can incubate 9 hours only, if you like it more tart incubate 15 hours.

What's the purpose of heating the milk to 180F before cooling down?
It is preferable to previously heat the milk up to 82Â°C/180Â°F to (re)pasteurized it and thus optimize the texture and the taste of the yogurt or kefir. The goal is to destroy unwanted bacteria that could prevent the yogurt or kefir from setting or that could grow beside the good bacteria contained in the Yogourmet starter.

Can I use this probiotic starter with my cuisinart yogurt maker

The Yogourmet CBA freeze-dried yogurt starter with probiotics is designed to work with the Yogourmet Multi electric yogurt maker and ONLY works with it unless you could manage to keep a constant incubation temperature of 37°C/98.6°F for 14-16 hours. Why is the temperature lower (23-25C) for this starter?
Hi Kathy, this yogurt starter contains 2 additional probiotic strains; Lactobacillus casei and Bifidobacterium ("Bifidus") longum. Since these strains do not develop at the same temperature as the regular/original yogurt strains, you need to start the incubation at a lower temperature. However, at the end of the incubation period, which is 9 to 15 hours, the temperature will be at 44Â°C (if you're using our yogurt maker).
Can you use this product to make yogurt with nut beverages?
Hi Norma, the tests that we have run several years ago have demonstrated that it is not possible to make yogurt and kefir with almond, coco or rice beverages. It is possible though to make yogurt and kefir with certain soy beverages, see soy beverages list for more information.
Is there any cow's milk in this starter? My friend can do goat's but not cow. Thanks.
Hi Peter, all Yogourmet starters are milk based products. However, you can use goat's milk to make your homemade yogurt with our starters.
